Idol 1 is the first prop in a series of designs dedicated to the live performances of the artist’s band 8STARS. This sculpture is handmade from 3 different materials (VFX clay, steel wires, epoxy clay), and openly references Nu-Metal figure Jonathan Davis of the band Korn’s microphone stand designed by H.R. Giger.
A mic stand embodies the persona of the lead singer, from the attitude to the spectacle. I referenced the metal band Korn as an example of the cultural mythology of the opulence of the rockstar, backed by a cultural archive of iconic imagery created by music industry titans such as MTV.
