Sex in the Cave

    10 - 12.11.2026

    SEX in the Cave

with Florence Parot, Kami Million and Penny Key

Culture in the Cave takes shape this year as a series of curated journeys and encounters conceived to strengthen our collective and deepen its social and cultural connections. These thematic gatherings create spaces to share experiences, exchange knowledge, meet practitioners and experts, and engage directly with different artistic practices.

SEX in the Cave focuses on the urban choreography, activism, labour, and lived experiences of Amsterdam’s De Wallen (Red Light District), bringing together curator Florence Parot, artists and activists Kami Million and Pennie Key.
    Programme

    Tuesday, 10 November

10:00–17:00 | Neighbourhood Walk with Kami Million, Florence Parot and Pennie Key
    De Wallen

A day-long exploration of De Wallen through its social, cultural, and urban landscapes. Participants will visit key sites and meet local organisers, caretakers, and other figures working to make the neighbourhood’s communities and histories visible.

17:00 | Studio Lecture with Pennie Key
    Pennie Key’s studio, De Wallen

Pennie Key will present her ongoing research into the regulation of bodies, labour, and desire within De Wallen, as part of her 2026 fellowship with Framer Framed.

Since 2020, Key has lived and worked in the neighbourhood, initially observing its urban choreography from her apartment near the Oude Kerk. Her practice approaches De Wallen as a site where sexuality is shaped by narrow normative frameworks and economies of consumption and extraction. Drawing from her position as an artist and sex worker, she examines the performance of masculinity, the circulation of desire, and questions of spatial belonging.

    Wednesday, 11 November

10:00–17:00 | Group Conversations with Pennie Key
    At the school's studio

An open and collaborative day of conversation exploring institutional structures, artistic precarity, labour, and spatial politics. The session will build on the questions raised through Key’s research and invite students to connect them to their own practices and experiences.

    Thursday, 12 November

10:00–17:00 | Individual Talks with Florence Parot
    External Contributors:

    Kami Million
Kami Million is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist and activist, and a 2024 graduate of the Sandberg Instituut’s Dirty Art Department. Their practice brings together community-focused installations, performances, and gatherings advocating for the decriminalisation and destigmatisation of sex work. Kami is the founder of Pleasure Providers Pillow Talks, a sex-worker-led initiative creating spaces for community, rest, storytelling, and collective reflection. In early 2026, Kami was awarded an artistic residency at GlogauAIR in Berlin.

    Pennie Key
Pennie Key (b. Athens) is a cross-disciplinary artist whose work examines the body within systems of power, gender, labour, and sexuality. Drawing on her embodied knowledge of martial arts, sex work, queerness, and motherhood, she explores how normative sexuality is shaped by economic and social structures.

A former Rijksakademie resident (2020–2022), Key is currently a fellow in the 2026 Framer Framed × UvA Political Science programme. Her community-based practice includes physical workshops, sex-worker film nights, and Artist Anonymous, a meeting series addressing professional rejection, burnout, and financial precarity.
